Tips for Caring for Your Braces

Living with braces is easier than you think! Dr. Neil Shapera has the experience to help clients adjust to their new braces by making a few minor changes.

Restricting certain foods can be the main challenge to caring for braces. North York's Dr. Shapera encourages you to avoid certain chewy, crunchy or sticky foods, including:

   • Hard or Sticky Food

   • Candies

   • Ice

   • Chewing gum

   • Nuts

Staying Active with Braces

You can still enjoy an active life while you’re wearing braces. Dr. Shapera recommends wearing a mouthguard to protect your braces and your mouth during active sports. It is important to stay mindful of your orthodontic appliances during any athletic activities. If you experience an emergency, check your teeth and your appliances to ensure no damage has occurred. If damage has occurred, contact our office immediately to schedule an appointment.
